Friday Leftovers: Cingrani Quiz, Don’t Panic, Highlights from MLB and More
It’s Friday, and you’ve earned the right to kick back before the weekend (at least from us). With that said, HLS is introducing a new Friday-only series detailing the best articles and videos that we otherwise couldn’t post during the week. Some are related to the Blue Wahoos, but we’ll also link to top Cincinnati Reds blogs covering the minor leagues. So take off the tin foil and set your microwave on reheat: it’s time for leftovers.
The Tony Cingrani quiz
Fans from last season are pretty familiar with the 23-year-old pitching phenom — holder of the single-game strikeout record, one of the first from Pensacola to earn a big-league promotion, and the fastest operator in the Southern League. But just how well do you know Anthony Michael Cingrani? The Cincinnati Enquirer has put a ten-question quiz together to test that very premise. Can you beat our 8/10 score?
Cingrani solid in second start
Speaking of the southpaw, Cingrani earned a no-decision in Tuesday’s 4-2 defeat. MLB.com shows you each strikeout and a nice pickoff play.
Brodie’s RBI double
With our solo Wahoos highlight from the road, Brodie Greene smacks a double off the wall to power the offense. Pensacola went on to win 3-0 over the Jackson Generals.
Didi goes deep (again)
Former shortstop Didi Gregorius has been hot in his D-backs start, hitting safely in all six major league games (10-for-25) and thirteen straight in the Arizona organization. Before his promotion, Gregorius was 12-for-31 in Triple-A Reno including a pair of doubles and two home runs.
Pensacola was defeated 2-1 by Tennessee last night, dropping to a 9-11 record. But how did Louisville, Bakersfield, and Dayton fare? Let Blog Red Machine tell you.
It’s still early in Reds farmland
Perhaps another minor league recap? Red Reporter tells us that everything’s OK for now, detailing some finer points of the Wahoos’ night.
Cincinnati pizza chain paying for wealth of publicity
Finally, MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon details how a Reds promotional offer and a high K count is nearly bankrupting a local pizza chain. File this in the “good problems to have” section. Click the hyperlink to read the Wednesday article from the Reds’ beat writer.
